Love is Immortal

There is a story of romance
A dream-driven memory tale
That makes one’s heart leap up with glee
While gray sorrow is left behind.

It starts on one fine spring time day
Where rolling hills were coated fine
With rainbow blossoms, flourishing
Around a public red-brick school
That housed the blameless sixth grade youth
Of York’s suburban populace.
Here it was this couple’s meeting,
The boy named Jeff, the girl, Julie,
The question asked, “Will you date me?”
An innocent quip for this child
And the answer was just the same:
“Sure” she said, with a gleeful shine
Across her fresh and sparkling smile.

An ember was lit in their souls
That kindled for about one week
Though never extinguished back then
It smoldered while they lived as kids.

For two long years of nourishment:
In careless games, exciting quests,
In fantasies, and learning; tests,
And mid-day rests, followed by the
Romp in afternoon azure sun;
Bedtime stories, morning glories,
Teatime, dandelion field near
The football game, the dance, parades!

The dance is where there sparked a flame
In the last minutes of eighth grade,
And our dear Jules, grew very brave
She asked sweet Jeff for her first dance;
-And his first dance when he agreed-
After minor hesitation
For they had not talked in two years
Besides the surface “Hey’s” and “Hi’s”
And then this sudden inquiry
With rose-garden eyes, waiting for
A response to unleash blossoms
Concerning the ensuing,
The gentle, warm, and rhythmic embrace
Under the mystic disco-ball
That lit the room with warm snowflakes,
A sign of new experience
That carried a luster forward
Throughout adult creating years:
Those path-building searching-quest years
Those flaming-passion, party years,
Those vulnerable fearless years,
In other words those high-school years
When there arises perception
Of a world far more incomplete
That must be filled by some effort
By fine friendships and by romance
And ultimately by the Lord.

These years held a growing friendship
Between this couple, and it led
To the fire of love igniting
In their hearts during senior-trip
An open expression, union
Of their souls, eternal embrace
In the company of waves that
Move from the ocean’s vast expanse
Towards the sun-beaten sand filled lands;
A vision of euphoria.

Again, this couple walked alone
Through three more years of waiting love
A living promise that ensued
For unions at a future date
While their hearts grew more together.

But suddenly there came a day
When Jeff left corporeal life behind.
Though an untimely death it seemed
His path was meant to go this way
Into the world that is unseen
But present more, and far more real
For in the spirit he is free.

For Julie this was hard to take
Disaster bringing sadness great
Until one night when in a dream
Jeff came to her, he is alive,
Inside the eternal Divine
And there they shared their love again
For he will be always with her
And she will hold him in her heart
A vision that shall never part.
